Fall Bounty

It's that time of year when the veggies and fruit turn brown...and red and yellow and orange. I do love spring and summer harvest, but I'm committed to getting down with what nature has to offer in my regional climate.
We got yams, pop-in-your-mouth-candy-like-tomatoes, melon (I think), apples, pear, papas, kale, iceberg lettuce, onion, and garlic. For sure the melon will meet it's destiny when it is wrapped in prosciutto (!), kale and papas go into the weekly soup, and the apples and pears will make their way to the juicer. Please feel free to post any recipes for any of the produce you see or challenge me to a cook off or post your own photos!

  1. Hi Jade!

Love the Veggie Cocina Blog! I'm going to guess that the large yellow melon looking thing is spaghetti squash. Delish as a pasta substitute with a light tomato sauce.

  2. Thanks Maricela. I thought it was squash too, but then I read the note that came with the box and it didn't say anything about squash but said there was melon. I think it's melon. It'll be a surprise.

  3. Yes indeed it'll be a surprise! Please share what it's like, I have never seen a melon like that.
It's is cool that the box comes with a note. I hate trying to figure out what strange and new veggies are and what to do with them. I think that's why I liked the Food Network show: Chopped. They give their chefs all sorts of odd ingredients!
